A great way to understand the concept of "tempo" in music is by using your skipping rope. Once you get the hang of skipping it is fun to challange your self by increasing your tempo and start jumping faster and faster.  When I was a little girl jump rope was very popular with all my siblings.  We had lots of our own school yard chants.
