Home Learning November 1st

I hope you all had a Happy Halloween!

Literacy

Speaking and listening

Read a story to your child and ask them questions. Example: What was your favorite part? What happened at the beginning/end of the story?

Reading

Have your child read their books that they have at home. Make sure they are pointing to each word as they say them.

Letters

Play ABC Song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=36IBDpTRVNE

Work on learning letter Kk

Letter K song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_LNrXd7Jx8

Have students practice printing letter Kk on the K sheet that I sent home in the home learning package (please send the completed sheet back to school with your child when we return to school. They each have a printing book where they keep all their sheets which will be sent home at the end of the year).

Draw a picture of something that starts with Kk.

Review letters by playing a couple squiggle park games in the ABC world.

Writing

Draw a picture of their Halloween costume or their favorite treat.  Have your child add labels to their picture or if they a ready, a simple sentence at the bottom (example: I am a dragon or I like candy). Please do not spell the words for them. Help them spell by saying the word slowly and recording any letters they hear. In Kindergarten words do not have to be spelled correctly. We want them to become independent. They just record what they hear when they say the word (if sounding out candy, they may only hear cnde). Simply getting the beginning letter is great for this time of the year.  They can use their word wallet to help spell any sight words they have in their sentence.

Sight words

Practice the words in their word wallet. If they have difficulty with a particular word, go to youtube and Jan Richardson and Jack Hartmann have a song for each word.

Math

Number 3 (this week we are working on number 3)

Complete the #3 printing sheet I have sent home (please send back to school with your child as well)

Sorting

Have your child take out some of their Halloween chocolate bars and sort them into piles.  Have them make a pile with all the KitKat, Aero, Smarties, Coffee Crisp, etc. Then once they are sorted have them make a pattern with their 2 favorite kinds.
