Ukulele "LAVA"

Hello everyone!  Most students will have their ukes home this week.  For those students who are just starting to play please review the Ukulele lessons that have already been posted.   Most importantly everyone take time and tune your uke! I have posted a uke tutorial about tuning your uke but you can also use one from the internet.  Remember your instrument needs to be tuned in the Key of C.  This weeks song is called "LAVA" it is a beautiful love song about two volcanos.  This is an easy song with the chords we have been using C F G7.  I enjoyed playing along with the uke player in this videoand I am sure you will also! Have Fun!

For those students who would like a challange check out the other tunes on this link. :o)

JUMP ROPE CHANTS

A great way to understand the concept of "tempo" in music is by using your skipping rope. Once you get the hang of skipping it is fun to challange your self by increasing your tempo and start jumping faster and faster.  When I was a little girl jump rope was very popular with all my siblings.  We had lots of our own school yard chants. This weeks link will introduce you to more.  Please ask your parents or your grandparents if they remember their jump rope songs.  HAVE FUN :O)

CELEBRATE MUSIC MONDAY!

Wow! A whole year has passed since King Street Elementary hosted their very first Music Monday! What is Music Monday?  Music Monday is a NATIONAL celebration, celebrating the importance of Music Education in our schools. ..."To raise awareness and understand the role that music education plays in Canadian culture, and to promote the benefits that music education brings to young people."

Remember students ... we had the whole school in the cafeteria celebrating music at KSE? Let me jog your memory if you forget. Sistema performed, our guitar club accompanied the grade 1 classes singing. There was dancing, ukuleles, classroom and choir performances and more! Lots of fun!

How can you take part this year?  Follow the Music Monday celebrations across Canada by checking out this web link.  We all know the words to Hymn To Freedom!  Singing along with the variety of choirs that will be performong this! Enjoy!

SING ALONG WITH JEREMY FISHER!

KSE was very fortunate to have  Jeremy Fisher come in and perform for our K-2 students last year.  These students had a great time singing along with Jeremy and his songs became part of our regular playlist in class. Well... exciting to say he has reached out to his audiences with a special message!  Jeremy writes...

"One thing that has really helped our family come together and find structure in this indefinite social hiatus is the Saturday Morning Special. I stream it live on my Facebook page every Saturday at 11am ET.

It's a get-up-and-move, interactive, sing-along concert from my home to your home. It's an art class in which we share our work with one another. It's music education accessible to people of all ages. It's an engaging 30 minutes of meaningful screentime where we can connect and express ourselves.

We have printable curriculum-ready activities and lyric sheets as well as archived versions of the livestream on JeremyFisherJunior.com/learn.

HAVE LOTS OF FUN SATURDAY MORNING GIRLS AND BOYS!!
