Mrs. Corcoran Notes

Welcome to Kindergarten!

Notes

Posted: June 8, 2020

This will be the last week of Home Learning.

I know it has certainly been a very challenging and unique year and I am so sorry we did not get to finish our year together at school. I really appreciate all you have done to take on the task of educators while maintaining your roles as parents, working inside and/or outside the home, with so many roles and responsibilities. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your effort under such difficult circumstances! I am very grateful for the time we did get to spend together this year and I will definitely be checking in on you all in the Fall! I hope you have a much needed break from your studies and a wonderful summer!

Mrs. Corcoran :)

What beautiful weather we have been having! I truly hope you are getting outside to play as much as you can!

We are going to change up the home learning for the next few weeks. Students can choose one activity a day from the Reading, Writing and Math choice boards. The choice boards are below. You might spend a couple days working on your writing choice.  Please continue to work on learning new sight words, Raz-Kids Reading, and Splash Math. If you have any questions, you can send me an email at natalie.corcoran@nbed.nb.ca.

Home Learning April 20-24, 2020

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!! Here are some ideas for Week 3 of Home Learning. Please contact me at any time if you have any questions or concerns at natalie.corcoran@nbed.nb.ca.

Speaking and Listening

Choose from the following:

Listen to a story on https://www.storylineonline.net

Hide a mystery object in a box or bag. Give clues to a family member about what is inside the box. See if they can guess what the object is and then, switch roles.

Call a friend and ask them 3 questions about what they have been doing. Have them ask you 3 questions as well.

Take a walk around your yard/neighborhood. Record or tell someone the things you hear, see, smell, and touch.

Do the calendar on www.starfall.com

=============================================================

Alphabet

Find objects in your house that begin with the letters b,c,d and f.  Write or draw a picture of some things you find.

Review your letters and sounds by playing these songs:

Review your letters on https://www.starfall.com/h/abcs/

=============================================================

Sight Words

Review your A - C Level sight words:

I, a, am, at, can, go, is, like, me, see, the,

to, dad, he, in, it, look, mom, my, on, up, we,

and, are, come, for, got, here, not, play, said, you.

Review these sight words with these videos

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDBKwChlunQ

If your child knows the A-C sight words here are the D-F sight words:

day, down, into, looking, she, they, went, where, will, your, all, away, back, big, her, over, this, want, who, with, came, have, help, next, now, one, some, then, was, what.

If your child is having trouble with any of the sight words they can build the word with playdoh, rainbow write it (print the word tracing it in many different colored crayons), print them in the driveway with chalk or cut the letters out and practice building the word and mess it up and build it again.

=============================================================

Reading

Read your favourite book in the dark with a flashlight.

Build a reading fort. Bring your favourite books inside to read them.

Continue using Raz-Kids. I've assigned each student some new books for the week but feel free to let your child choose their own book around the same level.

Step 2: Enter or choose the teacher's username, NatalieCorcoran

Practice writing your phone number and your address.

Find 3 things in your house that are taller than you. Find 3 things that are shorter than you.

Find 3 things in your house that are heavier than you. Find 3 things that are lighter than you.

If you have a deck of cards at your house there are fun games you can play (7-up, crazy eights..). If you do not know how to play you can search the instructions online.
