Good Morning boys and girls!  I hope everyone is doing well.  I miss seeing you each day.  Hopefully we will back in the class together soon.  Here are learning options for day 3 of home learning.

Language Arts:

Everyday read for 15-20 minutes.  Log your books and time spent reading.

Practice Spelling List from last week.  Use the remaining 5 words from your list to write a sentence for each.

Listen to reading on Tumble Books.  Login information: nblib   nbschools

With Remembrance Day approaching we will be writing an acrostic poem about Remembrance Day and what it means for peace.  Here is a short video from the Royal Canadian Legion about the meaning of the poppy.    https://youtu.be/AgYs4vx1QEg.  Add more to your brainstorm of words about Remembrance Day.

Math:

Log in to Splash Learn.  I will be loading assignments to your profile.  When you finish the assignments, choose your own game/activity.  Login information:  CKGIYI  glue73

Play from any of the math websites we have used:  ABCya, multiplication.com, or mathplayground.

Study x2 and x3.  If you have a deck of cards go through the deck as practice for each (ex.  Focus on x2…every card you turn over multiply by 2.  Then try x3.)

Try the attached game titled “Toothy”.  You can play the game on powerpoint and set your screen to slideshow.  It’s fun!

Work the following problems.  Show your work (equation, draw a pic, etc.) and write a sentence to complete.

1.  Jane collects teddy bears.  She has 15 teddy bears in her collection.  She wants to place an equal number of teddy bears on the shelves in her bedroom.  If there are 3 shelves, how many teddy bears will she place on each shelf?

2.  Julia baked 2 dozen cupcakes for her daughter’s party at school.  When the party was over, 6 cupcakes remained.  How many cupcakes did the class eat?

Cross Curricular:

Create an art piece!  Collect some leaves outside and make it into an art masterpiece.  Use your imagination.  You can always google some ideas if you’re stuck!  Take a picture and have your parent or guardian send it to me, and I will post it on my teacher page.

**Remember to bring in any work that you have completed at home.

Remembrance Day is approaching next week.  We will soon be writing acrostic poems for this.  To get started, brainstorm some ideas and words that are about Remembrance Day for positivity and peace.  (peace, remember, kindness etc.)  In the following days we will begin working on the poem.

Math:

Log in to Splash Learn.  I will be loading assignments to your profile.  When you finish the assignments, choose your own game/activity.  Login information:  CKGIYI  glue73

Good Morning boys and girls!  I hope you had an amazing and fun Halloween weekend and I look forward to hearing your stories when we return to in-person learning.  Today you will be learning from home.  Here are a few options for you for today.  If you haven’t completed your at home learning package that was sent home you can work on anything from that package.  If you have already completed that, here is the work for today:

Language Arts:

Everyday read for 15-20 minutes.  Log your books and time spent reading.

Practice Spelling List from last week.  Choose 5 words from your list to write a sentence for each.

Listen to reading on Tumble Books.  Login information: nblib   nbschools

Write a journal entry about your Halloween, or something you did over the weekend.  This should be a true story, not fiction.  Give as much detail as you can.

Math:

Log in to Splash Learn.  You have new assignments loaded to your profile.  When you finish the assignments, choose your own game/activity.  Login information:  CKGIYI  glue73

Play from any of the math websites we have used:  ABCya, multiplication.com, or mathplayground.

Continue to study x2 and begin working on x3

Cross Curricular:

Last week we watched a video on YouTube about children who explored  caves.  Check out their YouTube channel and choose a video(s) to watch.  To find them search “The River and Wilder Show”.  Answer the following questions in sentences:

1.  Name of the video:

2.  How were the children explorers in the video?

3.  Tell about 3 things the children learned during their exploration.

Be sure to get exercise!  Today we would have had Phys.Ed. and it’s a beautiful day.  Play outside, ride your bicycle, etc

Good Morning Grade 4!

Today is day 4 of home learning.  I hope you had a good week.  If you are able to bring in something…anything that you worked on this past week and show me on Monday, you can enter your name for our weekly prize draw.  I am also sending an email to parents with an attachment for a worksheet.  If this is too difficult, please change the operations to addition or subtraction as needed.

Here are a few things for today:

1.  Language Arts:

Reading – read a selection of your choice.  Try to read for at least 15-20 minutes.  Talk about your book to a parent/guardian.  Create a character web (like we did for Matilda) for a character in your book.  On paper, draw a sketch of a character in the middle of the sheet.  Then in bubbles around the character describe the character – what he/she looks like, personality, age, etc.  Try to have 5 items (or more) around the character.

Writing – Today should be your last day to work on the long weekend story.  It is now time to read over your story to be sure you have everything you need to make the story complete.  Did you remember to include: beginning, middle (first, next, then, after that, finally), ending, extra details, punctuation, spelling fix ups, and upper case letters where they belong (ALERT:  “I” when you write about yourself…not “i”).   Once you have completed this, share your story to an at home audience!  Bring it to class for a sharing party on Monday!

You can go on to tumble books and listen to reading.  Here is the information:

www.tumblebooklibrary.com

username:  nblib

password: nbschools

2.  Math:

Our class has been set up with the SplashLearn website.  Continue to work on activities from this site.  Try to spend 20-30 minutes (or more!!) working on activities once you are logged in.  You can access this with the code below.  Click “student” and find your name (the avatar was randomly generated by the website).

https://www.splashlearn.com/signin

class code:  CKGIYI

class password:  glue73

Continue to study multiplication facts x0 and x1 up to 12.  (0x1=0 up to 0x12=0, 1x1=1 up to 1x12=12)

Play a card game:  with a partner flip over one card each at the same time.  Add the numbers together.  The first person to answer correctly gets a point.  Add up all the points when all the cards have been used to determine a winner.  Use face cards as you wish…perhaps all worth 10 or make them 11, 12, 13.  LEVEL UP:  Think you know multiplication:  multiply the cards to get a point!!

3.  Art:

Use the website

Art For Kids Hub - Art Lessons - How To Draw For Kids

Choose an art project to complete!

**Don’t forget to get some physical activity.  Play a game, ride a bike, go for a walk.  It is important to stay active.

Good Morning Grade 4!

Today is day 3 of home learning.  I hope you are able to work on some of the tasks from yesterday.

Here are a few things for today:

1.  Language Arts:

Reading – read a selection of your choice.  Try to read for at least 15-20 minutes.  Talk about your book to a parent/guardian.  Tell about the main character, the setting, and if you have a chapter book – make a prediction about what will happen.

Writing – You should be working on a story from the last 2 home learning days.  Here’s the day to add the finishing touches.  Wrap up your story with a great ending that ties up the story.  THEN make sure to go back and reread the story to check for punctuation, upper case letters, and spelling.  See if you can add two extra DETAILS somewhere to your story.  This is not an extra part to the story but a detail to describe something.  (ex.  I walked around the pumpkin patch.  The pumpkin I chose was big, round and so heavy to carry.)

Click “student” and find your name (the avatar was randomly generated by the website).

https://www.splashlearn.com/signin

class code:  CKGIYI

class password:   glue73

Continue to study multiplication facts x0 and x1 up to 12.  (0x1=0 up to 0x12=0, 1x1=1 up to 1x12=12)

Use the numbers below to write in expanded form, draw a picture of base ten blocks, and skip count on by 5’s for the next 5 numbers.

2175                 3190                 1325

**you can also choose 3 numbers up to 100 or 1000 if these are too difficult.

3.  Cross Curricular:

Explore outside in your yard or somewhere close to home (with a grown up of course, not alone!).  As an explorer, keep a log/journal of the things you notice.  Write down 5 interesting things you have found or seen on your exploration.  When you arrive back home, choose 2 of those things to expand on and write about.  Tell about the following things:  where you found it, why you found it interesting, how you think it got there, and describe what it looks like.  This activity goes along with our work on explorations as well as rock collection.

**Don’t forget to get some physical activity.  Play a game, ride a bike, go for a walk.  It is important to stay active.

Good Morning Grade 4!

Today is day 2 of home learning.  I hope you all had a good day yesterday and were able to work on a few things from the package and do some reading.

Here are a few things for today:

1.  Language Arts:

Reading – read a selection of your choice.  Try to read for at least 15-20 minutes.

Writing – yesterday I posted to begin a plan for something you did on the long weekend.  Today, begin working a beginning and middle of the story using the five things you used as part of your plan.  Remember to add a detail to each of the parts so you are telling a story and not just listing what happened.

You can go on to tumble books and listen to reading.  Here is the information:

www.tumblebooklibrary.com

username:  nblib

password: nbschools

2.  Math:

Our class has been set up with the SplashLearn website.  You can access this with the code below.  Click “student” and find your name (the avatar was randomly generated by the website).  Once you are into your learning profile you can choose the games to play and the activities to use.  I have not “assigned” a task for today, I just want you to become familiar with the website for now.

https://www.splashlearn.com/signin

class code:  CKGIYI

Practice doubles facts (1+1, 2+2, 3+3, etc.) as will play Knockout again soon.  Once you practice them, try subtraction with doubles (14 – 7 etc.).

Study multiplication facts x0 and x1 up to 12.  (0x1=0 up to 0x12=0)

Good Morning, Grade 4!

Today you will be working from home.  Please work on the home learning package that was sent home in September.  Check back tomorrow for new work that will be posted here on my teacher page.

A few other things to work on if you are looking for something extra today:

1.  Read and log.  You can read a selection of your choice.  Don't forget about the strategies for solving unknown words - look at the all the letters in the word, stretch out the word, think about what would make sense, and you can skip it and go back to fix it up.

2.  Recall what you did over the weekend.  Choose an activity or something that you enjoyed to recount what happened.  Begin a plan for writing about the activity by thinking about the 5 important events about the activity.  (first, next, then, after that, finally).

3.  Get some fresh air.  Try to play outside for at least 30 minutes.  (ex. ride your bicycle, look for signs of fall)

I certainly wish we could be together in class, but it is best to stay safe to keep healthy.
