Good morning girls and boys!  Today is Friday, January 28, 2022.  It is the last day of home learning, I am looking forward to seeing you all on Monday!  Don’t forget to bring in your learning packages when you return to school so they can be marked.  Think of some fun and interesting things you have done since we were last together in December, we will be having share time on Monday to talk about your experiences.

Language Arts:

1. Read for 15-20 minutes (a book of your own) OR choose a book from Epic Books.  Choose an item from Reading Choice Board to write about from your reading.

2.  Choose an item from Winter Writing Prompts to write about.  Try to add 3 interesting word choices.  When you complete the writing, go back to edit and check for ending punctuation and adding an upper case letter to the next word. 

3.  Today’s reading comprehension passage is “The Hare And The Tortoise”.  This fits with Wednesday’s assignment to watch the video and learn about a fable and a moral to the story.  You can go back to watch it again if you wish.

Math:

1.  Complete the sheet “Tally Chart” and “Bar Graph” (2 sided sheet). 

2.  Play the attached game “Toothy” about graphs.

3.  Choose an extra math sheet if you haven’t completed any of these yet.  They are focused on multiplication facts.

Good morning girls and boys!  Today is Thursday, January 27, 2022.  We are almost at the end of week 3!  I look forward to seeing you all in class soon!  Here is your assigned work for the day.

Language Arts:

1. Read for 15-20 minutes (a book of your own) OR choose a book from Epic Books.  Choose an item from Reading Choice Board to write about from your reading.

2.  Today there are 2 reading comprehension passages to read and answer questions.  “Penguins” and “Why Do Bears Hibernate”.

3.  Watch the video below about Hibernation.  Answer the following questions:

Good morning girls and boys!  Today is Wednesday, January 26, 2022.  Here is your assigned work for the day.

Language Arts:

1. Read for 15-20 minutes (a book of your own) OR choose a book from Epic Books. 

2.  Today there are 2 reading comprehension passages to read and answer questions.  “The Lion and the Mouse” and “Why Do Lions Roar”.  One of the passages is a fable with a moral to the story.  The moral is a lesson about life to be learned.  After you read and answer the questions, watch the fable below.  What do you think the moral of the story is?

Good morning girls and boys!  Today is Tuesday, January 25, 2022.  Here is your assigned work for the day.

Language Arts:

1. Read for 15-20 minutes (a book of your own) OR choose a book from Epic Books.  Then choose an item from Reading Choice Board sheet.  Write about your choice in your scribbler.

2.  Today there are 2 reading comprehension passages to read and answer questions.  “Lost and Found” and “Save the Sea Turtles”.  Some tips to remember:  Connections are text to text, text to self, or text to world.  Watch the video below to help understand the types of connections readers make while reading and why this is important.

Good morning girls and boys!  Today is Monday, January 24, 2022.  We are headed into what is hopefully our last week of home learning.  I hope we can all be together again next week.  You should have your new package for the week that was prepared with new sheets.  Here is the assigned work for the day.

Language Arts:

1. Read for 15-20 minutes.  Choose an item from Reading Choice Board sheet.  Write about your choice in your scribbler.

2.  Writing.  Choose a new item from Winter Writing Prompts to write about. 

3. Read The Boy Who Never Told A Lie poem.  This a reading comprehension.  Work on answering the questions (2 sided sheet).

Math:

1.  There are 2 sheets for Comparing Fractions.  One uses fraction stripes and the other uses equal shapes.  Colour in the fractions to compare and use >  <  or = to show the comparison.

2.  There are new assignments on SplashLearn to work on.

Good morning girls and boys!  Today is Friday, January 21, 2022.  We are now finished our second week of home learning.  You have all done a wonderful job.  Yesterday we had a Teams meeting, even though it was a very small group, it was nice to see faces. 

Here are the assignments for today.  You can spend some today catching up on work that you may not have not completed this week.

Language Arts:

1. Read for 15-20 minutes.

2.  Writing.  This winter will see the Winter Olympics held in Beijing.  After watching the videos below about the winter Olympics write about what sport you would want to participate in.  Tell about the sport and why you would be interested in it.

3. Finish any reading comprehension sheets from the past weeks.

Math:

1.  Work on the sheet “Fact Family Sheet”.  This relates multiplication and division.  Look at the example given.  Remember, the biggest number will be the product (answer you get when you multiply) and will also be what you begin with when you divide.  You need a big number to begin for division so you can share.

2.  Complete any sheets from the previous weeks that have not been finished.

2.  Answer the following in your scribbler.

Joe is learning to play piano.  On Monday he practiced from 6:45 to 7:10.  On Tuesday he practiced from 3:55 to 4:30.  How many minutes did he practice piano?

Print your full name.  Write a fraction to represent the vowels in your name and the consonants in your name.

Good morning girls and boys!  Today is Wednesday, January 19, 2022.  Here is the assigned work for today.    

Language Arts:

1. Using the “Winter Writing Prompts” work on a story in your scribbler.  Try to stretch your thoughts by adding a few extra details.  Add 3 interesting word choices.  Underline the word choices to show what you thought was an interesting choice. 

2.  Listen to a Tumble Book.  Use the sheet with Story, Author, Setting, Main Characters, Beginning, Middle and End to fill in the information from your story choice.

3.  If you did not finish the Reading Comprehension sheets from yesterday continue working to complete.

4.  Read a book of your choice (15-20mins).

5.  I have included a cursive writing pack.  There are the first four letters (upper and lower case).  You can work on these at any time at your own pace.

Math:

1.  Work on the sheet “Addition Shark Attack”.  This is a two sided sheet, but for today just work on one side.  Answer the riddle at the bottom! 

2.  Answer the following in your scribbler.

Gracie rolled a dice 4 times and she rolled the following numbers:

5,  3,  6,  1.  Write all the possible 4 digit numbers that can be made using each digit only once.  Write the numbers in order from greatest to least.

3.  There are new assignments in SplashLearn.  Work on these.

Language Arts:

1. Study the spelling list.  Choose 5 words from your list to write sentences.  Write these in your scribbler. 

2.  Yesterday you worked on a plan for the Opinion Writing.  You should have chosen if you prefer cold weather or hot weather and written reasons.  Use the writing sheet to write an opinion piece using your plan.  There is a rubric (kind of like a cheat sheet!) on the back of your plan.  This is how you can make your writing the best piece possible.  The link below is the videos we have watched in class about persuasive writing.  Watch again for a refresh.

3.  Work on the Reading comprehension “New Year’s Resolution”.  There are questions to answer with the reading.  Work on this, if you do not finish, work on the rest tomorrow.

2.  For writing today, I would like for you to begin working on the “Opinion Writing” planning sheet.  It is asking for you to have 3 reasons to answer the question “is cold weather better than hot weather, why or why not.”  We started this type of writing before Christmas, so you know you need reasons and details.  Complete the planning sheet.  Tomorrow you will work on the writing sheet that goes with it.

3.  Read for 15-20 minutes.  This can be a book of your own choice, or working on the book that was sent home.

4.  Complete the second side of “using a and an”.

5.  I have included a cursive writing pack.  There are the first four letters (upper and lower case).  You can work on these at any time at your own pace.

Math:

1. Study the spelling list.  Complete another sheet for the list.

2.  For writing today, I would like for you to write about the week of home learning.  What were some things you enjoyed and why?  What did you find difficult, and how were able to work through it?  What are some things you wish were different about home learning?  Instead of just answering these questions, write a journal entry.  Expand on your ideas.

3.  Read for 15-20 minutes.  This can be a book of your own choice, or working on the book that was sent home.

4.  Listen to a Tumble Book.  After listening to the story, use the sheet “Character Comparisons” to describe two characters.  Try listening to the story more than once.  The first time listen to enjoy the story, the second time listen to really think about how you can fill in the sheet.

5.  I have included a cursive writing pack.  There are the first four letters (upper and lower case).  You can work on these at any time at your own pace.

Math:

1.  Work on the sheets “Colorful Fraction Circles” and “Telling Time”.

Good morning girls and boys!  Today is Thursday, January 13, 2022.  We are almost finished the first week of home learning.

Language Arts:

1. Study the spelling list.  Have someone ask you the words and write them down.  See how many you can get correct.  What fraction of the word list did you get right?

2.  Read the Poem “Winter Surprise” and answer the comprehension questions.  This includes a writing component as well.  One of the questions in the pack includes alliteration. There an example given, but here is a quick video to help you further understand.

3.  Read for 15-20 minutes.  This can be a book of your own choice, or working on the book that was sent home.

4.  Word Work:  A/An sheet.  This is a two-sided sheet.  Work on completing one side.  Here is a quick video for further explanation.

1.  Work on the sheet “It’s Almost the New Year” for a review of telling time.   

2.  Work on the following problem.  Show your work and write a sentence in the scribbler provided.

Tell 3 important times of day for you and draw an analog clock and a digital clock for each.  Try to make them at different minutes (ex. Breakfast at 7:30, lunch at 12:15, homework at 5:45).

Good morning girls and boys!  Today is Wednesday, January 12, 2022.  I hope everyone had a good first day of learning from home.  Here are today’s lessons:

Language Arts:

1. Start working on Spelling sheets for Unit 10 “Double Consonants”.  Study the words and complete a sheet (you choose) that is attached to them.

2.  Choose a topic from the sheet “Winter Writing Prompts”.  Use the scribbler provided to write a short story (this is longer than a few sentences but shorter than a 2 page story).  After you write this, go back to look for fix ups such as punctuation, upper case letters used correctly and spelling common words correctly.

3.  Read for 15-20 minutes.  This can be a book of your own choice, or working on the book that was sent home.

4.  Complete the sheet in your package titled “Remembering the Year 2021”.

Math:

1.  Work on the sheets “Parts of a Whole” and “Multiply by 6s”.   

2.  Work on the following problem.  Show your work and write a sentence in the scribbler provided.

On Monday, Sandy worked 6 hours at her job.  She earns $7 for each hour.  If she works the same number of hours on Tuesday, how much money will Sandy have earned for the two days? 

3.  Complete any unfinished assignments on SplashLearn.  If all assignments are complete, work on activities of your choice from the website.

Good morning girls and boys!  Today is Tuesday, January 11, 2022.  Happy New Year!  I hope you all had a wonderful holiday filled with lots of new memories.  Today we start another round of home learning, I certainly wish I could see you and hear your stories about what you did over the Christmas/New Year break.  We will be back together again soon.  Until then, here is today’s work.  Yesterday, packages were given out at the school door, and the following is the instructions for the work.

Language Arts:

1. Start working on Spelling sheets for Unit 10 “Double Consonants”.  Study the words and practice printing them out.  You do not need to complete all the attached spelling sheets today.
