Hi folks!
Home packs are mostly all out and about and officially ready to rock and roll. Hope this gives a little more structure to students so they feel accomplished. Please remember: we will pick away at this pack! Do not do it all in one day! Once we get back in school, this pack is asked to returned. Thanks!

- Mme R

Colour scheme: priority activitiesactivities for today and extra activities.
Activities for Friday, November 12th

- Word searches: there are several to choose from. Only spend 5-10 minutes.

- Lis et colorie: where they read the description and colour the image accordingly

- Literacy center work from previous days at school: finish up your work where needed by colouring images, finishing sentences etc.
- Remembrance day pages from Nov 10: finish up the mot du jour and/or la paix c'est
- Halloween pages: various to be completed whether it be cut and glue words, syllables or alphabetical order
- Monster head/blank writing page: Design the head of the monster to your liking then write a description. Ex. Mon monstre s'appelle Fido. Il a 5 yeux verts avec un nez pointu. etc.
- Le petit chat noir (3e) or La chauve-souris effrayante (4e): You're planning a story about a black cat (grade 3) or a scary bat (grade 4). Write about who is in the story, what they want to do, the problem etc. Later, students can present their story to me.

BOOKLETS: Students have one or two books in their packet. Everyone has "Le cycle de vie d'une plante" and Grade 4's also have "Mon livre d'émotions". Please continue finishing these books. Once finished, place in the ziplock "Pour Mme R". This can be done in lieu of the Green duatang depending on how much time you have.

109 recordings reviewed! My eyes are crossed! Please let students know to hear my comments on Je lis the next time they login. How? Go to "my recordings". The green triangle is to hear themselves and what they recorded. The double blue speech bubbles is my comment back to them. Unfortunately there is no way for them to respond again, but they can go back to their recording to hear/see what I'm talking about.

Is anyone else drained? If adults are feeling it, then surely the students are too. Today I'm trying to keep students away from the screens as much as possible. But, screens may be more helpful to some homes too. Your pick!

To note: I attached the wrong file to yesterday's email. Therefore, I've included the proper file for yesterday's and then Friday's attachment too. Sorry about that!

Repeat "playlist":

  • Bring back all paper copies when the time comes.
  • Priority activities are the most important, followed by the daily exploratory activity, then the "other" awesome activities.
  • Time is precious. Kids are kids. Do what you can with what you have.
  • Links are on our class website. Mme. Robichaud | King Street Elementary (nbed.nb.ca) and login information is in the back of their agenda.

Here's day 5 (Friday)

*ROCK & ROLL MATH (Friday's activity)* - See pdf. Go outside and gather a BIG pile of rocks. Rocks not popular around your home? Use small sticks/branches instead.

  • Count your rocks.
  • Then skip count! Grade 3: count by 3's and 5's. Grade 4's: count by 3's and 4's.
  • Place your rocks in order from largest/longest to smallest.
  • Place them end to end. Find an object that's approximately the same length.
  • Divide your rocks in two piles (half). Then divide then into four equal piles (fourths).
  • Create a pattern with your rocks.
  • Make a creative design using only your rocks. A picture? A mandala? Your pick! Take a picture to share your design with me.
  • If each rock was worth 10 dollars, how much are your rocks worth? What about 10 cents?
*NINJA MATH (Thursday's activity)* - Please see the attached PDF for some fun Math problems. Don't forget the link at the bottom. Number Ninja - Multiples • ABCya! Grade 3's please concentrate on multiples of 2, 5 & 10. Grade 4: please concentrate on all except 12.

*WORD WORK* – The page in their pack with "Prénom" at the top. It's a fill in the blank for them to complete. Please return this page to school.

*FRENCH READING* - Reading comprehension to bring back to school. There are four ladies standing. They read the description and figure out which one is which.

*Pepper magic* - Take a pie plate and fill the bottom with water. Shake some pepper on top of the water. It will float. Place a drop of dish detergent on the tip of a Q-tip and lightly touch the Q-tip/soap in the middle of the pie plate. What happens? Can you make the pepper run away?

MATH – Most students have a zorbit login to work away at their own pace. Zorbit's Math Adventure (zorbitsmath.com)

*MONEY MAKER* - Cash or debit? Counting money is a life skill that we sometimes take for granted in this debit/credit world. Students are no longer as money savvy as "when we were young". Let's change that!

  • Count out the money in your Piggy Bank. Remember to group coins in piles of $1 to help you count out your money. Skip count the remainder when even dollars can't be formed. If you don't have a piggy bank, check out the picture attached and count one of my daughter's Piggy Bank. Ssshhhh!
  • Make the following amounts using real money or drawing it out on paper. To note: in French the $ sign goes at the end of the amount and in English it goes at the beginning. Amounts to make: 75 cents, 95 cents, 1,40$ and 3,80$. Choose one amount and make it two different ways (ex. 25 cents could be one quarter, 5 nickels, or two dimes and a nickel - three different ways!).
  • Challenge questions:
    • If a cookie costs 75 cents and I have 4,00$. How many cookies can I buy? How much money would I have left?
    • I have 6,00$ and bought the main meal (5,50$). Colleen gave me 5 coins. Which coins did she give me as change?
    • I have 5,00$ and bought a treat (1,00$). Colleen gave me over 10 coins back. Which coins did she give me as change?

*OUTSIDE EXPLORATORY* - Make a balance obstacle course that's longer than two car lengths. Challenge a family member or neighbour (young or old) to complete it with you.

Here we go with day 2!

I am certain some of you are feeling overwhelmed by this whole situation. Be rest assured that we can only do what we can do. As you'll see, most activities will remain similar from one day to the next including the priority activities. One exploratory activity will change daily. I appreciate all the work each of you are doing inside and outside of your home. Please let me know if your child is unable to complete home learning - either by choice or by circumstance (if you haven't already)Thank you!

Again, all links are found on our class website. Mme. Robichaud | King Street Elementary (nbed.nb.ca) and login information is in the back of their agenda. I ask that any home-learning that is done during this time be sent back to school upon our return. Please snap some pictures of their favourite activities and send them to me!

*BANNOCK BAKER* - Bannock is a delicious bread that has been made for a long time in Canada. It is known as Iuskinikn in Mi'kmaq. I LOVED making this with my cousins from Manitoba every summer! We used to cook it over a campfire on a stick, but the stove works just as well! Here is the basic recipe. You can fancy it up by making into a pizza, adding raisins/chocolate chips, or topping it with Nutella or a piece of cheese!

Here we go!

Sticking to a routine is best for the students but, we can only do what we can do! If you need anything at all, just reach out and I’m here to support you, your child or anyone helping your child through this home learning experience.

I fully understand some students will be able to complete more than others. I’ve placed a * on the learning activities that are priority. Hope this helps! All links are found on our class website. Mme. Robichaud | King Street Elementary (nbed.nb.ca) and login information in the back of their agenda.

WORD WORK – “Le mot du jour" in Covid Pack. Complete chaud and soleil.

*FRENCH READING* – Website “Je lis, je lis”. Listen to the book, practice reading aloud and record the book. I can listen and send a voice note back on what to work on etc. Je lis, je lis, littératie ! ONLINE (rkpublishing.com)

LALILO – website for students to help with sound recognition and sentence composition. Use code XZBYHB. Only available during school hours. Lalilo | Interface élève

MATH – Grade 4: work in your covid Math sheets (either pack) for 15-20 minutes. I would suggest lesson 3.4 PW13 #23-30. Grade 3 – complete the following questions from the pack (PW2 #1-14, PW6 #1-10, PW7 #1-8,16-19).

*MATH* - Splashlearn for 20ish minutes. They have an assignment waiting for them to complete. SplashLearn Student Sign In

MATH – Most students have a zorbit login to work away at their own pace. Zorbit's Math Adventure (zorbitsmath.com)

*CANDY MATH* - For this students will need their Trick or Treating candy (what’s left! Haha). Sort your candy in groups with all the cheesies in a pile, plain chips in a pile, candy bars according to flavour etc. Solve the following problems. Send me a picture of you with your fingers showing the question number next to your answer :

·        Question #1: Which type of treat is the least popular?

·        Question #2: Which type of treat is the most popular?

·        Question #3: Which two treats can be combined together to give you the total of the most popular treat? Closest to the total is also acceptable if you can’t find the exact number.

·        Question #4: Pick your favourite treat.

o   Grade 3’s – Start at 100, count by two’s for each favourite treat you have. Write down the final number you said then take your picture.

o   Grade 4’s – Start at 1200, count by three’s for each favourite treat you have. Write down the final number you said then take your picture.

·        Question #5: Take 5 small candy bars and place them in a line. Find another object in your home that is approximately 5 small candy bars long.

*OUTSIDE EXPLORATORY* - Go outside and write the word “le 1 novembre”. Use any means you’d like – chalk, sticks, foggy window etc. Take a picture and send it my way.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION – Check out Mr Williston’s page for his ideas on your gym class today. Mr. Williston & Ms. McFarlane (Phys. Ed.) | King Street Elementary (nbed.nb.ca)

Have fun. I can’t wait to see your pictures!

Please remind students to dress warmly. The wind is chilly and some students are coming inside looking pretty cold.

TOMORROW (Thursday Oct 28th) we will be going for a walk downtown to look at the pumpkins and completing a follow-up activity in class. Extra warm clothes and extra masks are encouraged.

We are still in search of 2L milk cartons if you or anyone you know has extra.

Hi Folks,
Students are loving working with the few clipboards I have for the class. If you have any kicking around at home that you'd like to donate, or one specifically for your child, please send them in.

Friday is the soccer jamboree for a few students in our class AND our Halloween party. We will be having it during soccer's "off time" for everyone to be able to join with their costume.  Also, a quick clarification on the party - treats are allowed to be passed out but must be pre-packaged/store bought. No homemade delicious goods.

All for now!

Happy Friday!
We've been working hard at our literacy skills and some students are ready to move up in their reading levels. You will receive a message in your child's agenda if this happens. By November, our goal is for grade 3 students to be at level F or higher and grade 4 students to be at level J or higher.

Our class will be going skating on November 25th for those that have volunteered and submitted their proof of vaccinations.

We have two online learning platforms for our class - splashlearn and lalilo. If there's downtime at home, please have your child log on. Their login info is glued in their agenda.  Some students will also be receiving "Zorbit" starting on Monday.

Other reminders for next week:
MON - Sports Swag Day & gym
TUES- Twin Day & library day
WED - Retro Day & cross-country jerseys to be returned
THURS - Halloween Colours & gym
FRI- Bring costume to school & soccer jamboree for those in soccer (schedule sent home today) & gym
