Happy Thursday everyone!! We are getting there! Another week almost done! Another check the weather to see how much snow is coming on the weekend!!!! Sure is a chilly morning out there today, might not get outside this morning!

  • Do day 4, and addition/subtraction fact family add/subtract 4. If you did not pick up the new packets, choose 2 sheets in your learning packet to complete
  • Play go fish make ten. (using a deck of cards, remove the face cards, and you play go 5, but you ask for the card that goes with your number to make 10 ie- if I have a 4 I will ask you for a 6).
  • Math Riddle: Email me your answer, and I will write your name down on a ticket for a prize when we return! I am not an odd number. I am less than 90-60. I am more than 16+10. What am I?

Brain Break- Looks like a chilly day today, but dress warm and get out there! Or search a freeze dance on youtube to do!

  • Do day 3, and addition/subtraction fact family add/subtract 3. If you did not pick up the new packets, choose 2 sheets in your learning packet to complete
  • Practice your double facts; use a deck of cards and take out the J, Q, and K. Take turns flipping cards one at a time. Say the double of the card (I flip over a 3, I say 6.)
  • Math Riddle: Email me your answer, and I will write your name down on a ticket for a prize when we return! I have 6 tens. The digit in my ones place is 6 less than the digit in my tens place. I am 30 doubled. What am I?

Brain Break- Looks like a chilly morning to start off the day, but some fresh snow falling this afternoon! Be sure to get out for some fresh air!

  • Do day 2, and addition/subtraction fact family add/subtract 2. If you did not pick up the new packets, choose 2 sheets in your learning packet to complete
  • Practice putting numbers is order from smallest to biggest, then biggest to smallest. Use a deck of cards and take out the 10, J, Q, and K. Flip 2 cards to make a number (ex: flip 3 and 6 number is 36). Make 6 numbers and then put them in order.
  • Math Riddle: Email me your answer, and I will write your name down on a ticket for a prize when we return! I am an odd number. The sum of my tens and ones digit is 18. I am 10 less than 109. What am I?

Lots of fresh snow out there today!! Go and shovel the step or deck or help with the driveway! Get some fresh air! Looks like a beautiful day out there today!

Literacy block:

Reading- Listen to “Sneezy the Snowman” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5eBXQN7Iv2A

Journal writing- After you have read this story, can you write a story about your snowman that you built, and he came to life one day? What would your snowman do? What would you name your snowman? What fun would you do with your snowman? Try and use the terms First, Then, Next, After that and Finally in your story. This is procedural writing, remember to start with an introduction- Ask a question, then into the body using the terms first, then, etc. and then wrap it all up with your opinion in the conclusion. I cannot want to read these stories when we return!

Brain Break- Go onto youtube and search snow volcano. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R0FeqhpR6vQ

It is a fun experiment to try in the snow. If you happen to have the materials at home, give it a try!! You will need: baking soda, dish soap, food colouring, vinegar, snow, and a small container. Watch a video on how it works! Send me a video of how it turned out!

Journal writing- Write about your favourite thing to do outside in the winter. Why is it your favourite? Remember to add lots of detail to your writing.

Brain Break- Go onto youtube and search “brain break for kids”

Be sure to have a snack this morning!

Numeracy Block:

  • In the learning packet choose any two Math sheets to work on.  
  • Zorbits/Splashlearn – play for about 20 min: https://play.zorbitsmath.com/  www.splashlearn.com
  • Play a board game with a family member.
  • Play a game of addition war with the deck of cards to practice addition facts to 20. All face cards are worth 10 and the A’s are worth 1. Each person flips 2 cards and adds them together. Whoever has the bigger number wins the cards. If the total is the same, then flip 2 more. The higher number always keeps the cards. Whoever wins all the cards or who has the most at the end, wins the game.

Happy Wednesday Morning boys and girls! I hope everyday had a good day yesterday! It’s another chilly day out there today, but I hope you can get out for some fresh air sometime through out the day!

Reading- Listen to reading; storyline online, tumble books or Epic has lots of books to choose from. All login information was sent home with the learning packets. If you have any books at home, please read them! 

Journal writing- I want you to try to do a procedural writing piece of your Christmas Break. In procedural writing you use the sentence starters “First, Next, Then, After that and Finally”. Include a nice sentence of your favourite part of the holiday, do you have a special tradition you do every Christmas, etc. Remember to start each sentence with a capital letter, and end with a punctuation (.?!). Please keep your writing pieces in the page protector so I can read them when we get back to school. Don’t forget to date your writing piece!   

Brain Break- Go onto youtube and search “would you rather winter break” Have fun and get moving!

Be sure to have a snack this morning!

Numeracy Block:

  • In the learning packet choose any two Math sheets to work on.

Good morning, Boys, Girls and Guardians, 

On Tuesday, January 11, 2022, we begin Home Learning. Posted below are recommendations as well as a visual schedule of what a day of At Home Learning can look like.

30 Minutes of Physical Activity is encouraged and 60 minutes a day for Literacy and Numeracy are recommended for students in Grade 2.

Literacy block:

Reading- Listen to reading; storyline online, tumble books or Epic has lots of books to choose from. All login information was sent home with the learning packets.

Journal writing- In the learning packet, in the sheet protector is looseleaf and writing prompts. On the top of the looseleaf, please date your writing piece, choose a prompt, and write! You may draw a picture to go with your writing. Remember to start each sentence with a capital and end your sentence with a punctuation mark!

Brain Break- Go onto youtube and search “count back from 100” Have fun counting and moving!

Be sure to have a snack this morning!

Numeracy Block:

  • In the learning packet work on the first sheet. What is missing (tens and ones).
  • Zorbits/Splashlearn – play for about 20 min: https://play.zorbitsmath.com/  www.splashlearn.com

Happy Friday everyone! I hope everyone got to take in some Remembrance Day ceremonies yesterday or took a moment of silence to think about our veterans who fought for our freedom! I appreciate all the work everyone is doing again this week. I hope you all have a great weekend! I miss everyone and hope to see you again soon!

Writing- If you picked up a home packet, you can complete the Remembrance Day packet! Please remember to keep everything you’ve done and return to school when we get back!

Spelling- Finish up Unit 6 of spelling- have someone at home ask you your words.

Numeracy:

  • In your home packets work on the addition worksheets, or on a piece of paper, work on addition to 20.
  • Practice counting by 2’s starting at 6 and stopping at 20. Count by 10’s starting at 12 and finish at 102. Can you write down the numbers as you count?
  • Try counting backwards by 1 from 50. For a challenge start at 100
  • Play Addition War – Use a deck of cards, but take out the J, Q and K. Divide the rest of the deck in 2 piles. You get one pile and someone else gets the other. You each flip 2 cards and add them together. The person with the highest number gets to keep all the cards. If there is a tie, flip one card and the person with the highest keeps the cards. Play until someone has all the cards. Have fun!
  • Play crazy 8’s, go fish, 7up, or a game of your choice with someone at home!

 A few read alouds’ to listen to today, and a powerful strong to listen to as well.

**Tomorrow, November 11th is a Holiday! Please take a moment of Silence in the honour of our veterans.

Go for a walk downtown Chatham or Newcastle and look at lamp post decorations in honour of our veterans. Are any of them your relatives? Do you recognize any names? Walk over to Elm Park (near the Library in Chatham). Look at the display in Remembrance of our veterans. Take a moment to think about what it would have been like.
