Hi folks!

Skating is tomorrow! A permission form is coming home today to allow your child to attend. They must have their own skates and helmet (there may be a later date to borrow these items but they will not be ready for tomorrow). Those that do not will stay behind at the school. If you'd like to reply to this email giving permission to attend and to let me know about their skates/helmet, that works! You are welcome to join the fun too or just help tie skates. Also, if you are meeting us at the rink please let me know via email or agenda so as to assure students will be met with their items.

Legion contest is due tomorrow. Totally optional! Permission form must be signed.

French reading cards will be replaced with a sticky note in the front of their book moving forward.

All for now!!

Hi folks!

Today you'll find their final French writing assignment of our first unit. Pretty cool to see the big jump from Grade 2 expectations to Grade 3. Please sign and return. You'll also find rules/form for the Remembrance Day contest. They can submit one for art (colour or black and white) or a writing. Some students said they'd like to complete it over the long weekend. It's totally optional.

In Math, we are now moving on to addition and subtraction strategies. Please continue to count money at home. We will continuously revisit this! Our first unit package has been sent home too. This stays home.

In French/English, we are moving on from our unit on descriptions to government. We are learning about rules, laws, government responsibilities etc. We will be working on writing letters to change a rule or law.

I didn't take many pictures this week so will update the website at the end of next week.

All for now!

Hi folks!

Longest. Week. Ever. That was a jammed packed week of fun and learning. Lots of short weeks in November to cram with fun and learning too. This week's highlights were obviously Halloween costumes and dance but also our Halloween Science afternoon! We wrapped up the week with a month-end assembly (congrats to our hard-earned winners!) and talks/art for Remembrance day. Most exciting to me is how close students are to learning the full game of crib. A great family activity that helps them with their mental math skills. Get ready for these card sharks!

A book order will be going home on Monday. It will be due Thursday, November 14th. You can order online or through me. Also, we have our $25 book winner Harrison! He collected the most dollars from others! Each week students receive $5. If they are caught speaking in English they owe $1. Students continue each week and it's a great way to monitor quiet conversations amongst students. Students can then "buy" a ticket for a chance to win the teacher chair for the week. The student with the most "cash" wins $25 from the book order! So fun! Some day I hope to get my teacher chair back. haha.

Heads up - skating is coming and permission forms will be heading home mid-week. Our first skating day will be Wednesday, November 13th @LBA @10-10:30. Students will need skates and an ice-helmet (no bicycle helmets allowed).

Hi folks!

A full week next week as we creep towards Halloween. Heading home Monday will be a "mid-term" for your child. This is something that Mme Prince and I like to do before the first report card.

Halloween plans for our class - School wide costume dance Wed Oct 30. Students can wear masks at the dance but we ask for no costume props (especially weapons). Our class will exchange treats that afternoon too. If you'd like to send in a small something, it'd be appreciated by the students (but probably not their afterschool supervisor).

Cross-country students' season has come to an end. Please return jerseys to me. Thanks!

Hi folks!

A few extra things on the go. Tomorrow, October 16, 2024, we will be going to the Chatham Library.  We will be leaving the school at around 9:30 and returning around 11:30.  Please make sure your child is wearing proper footwear for the walk, dressed for the weather and have their Public Library card.

Picture retakes will be taking place on October 22.  Please send in a note if you would like for your child to have retakes. Only those who have notified me will be able to pop down for retakes.

And finally, Mrs McLean is preparing the Remembrance Day slideshow. If there is a family member you'd like included in the slideshow, please email Mrs McLean with a photo and return the form. Here's a copy of last year's slideshow to see if your child has already been included or not. My own Father is on slide 51! hehe. If there is a new sibling in the school, please fill out the form too.

Hi folks!

Happy long weekend. Enjoy the extra time with your kids. I know I will!

We didn't end up going for the Great Pumpkin walk as the class didn't have enough hard work points. We will try again next week. We are hoping to have enough points to go downtown on Wednesday for a Public Library visit too.

I just uploaded some pictures to our class site. Take a peek if you have a chance.Mme. Robichaud | King Street Elementary (nbed.nb.ca)

Hi folks!
We are heading into the fourth week of school and starting to get into the grind. Grade 3 Math has begun! We are learning about hundreds - how to represent (pictures and numbers), break it down, say aloud, bigger/smaller etc. Our guided reading has started too. We've had our first English writing sessions and French is soon to come! Our first unit is about visible and invisible traits.
Our class has started learning about Orange Shirt day and residential schools. They may have some questions for you. CBC kids has some great content if you'd like to watch as a family.
Homework: remember, students have lots of choices for what works for your family. Levelled books (in French and English), word cards, Math game, and online games (Lalilo and Splashlearn passwords are in the front of their agenda). Just 10-15 minutes is needed whenever works for your family. Again, it's easiest to write afterschool transportation for students in their agenda.
If students are finished with their public library books, feel free to send them in. I can return them for you.
Lastly, please check out some pictures on our class site: Mme. Robichaud | King Street Elementary (nbed.nb.ca)

Here are a few highlights of our coming week:
MON: Cross-country practice for those involved (pickup @3:45)
TUES:
WED: Picture day! Cross-country meet at England's hollow (pickup or bus?)
THURS: Terry Fox Walk @10:30
FRI: School library day, Orange Shirt Day, Month-end assembly
MON, Sept 30: No School (National Day for Truth and Reconcilliation)

Hi folks! Happy Monday!

Homework is officially starting today! Students are going home with their agenda and homework folder. You will find their levelled French book in their homework folder. Tomorrow you will also find a levelled English book in their homework folder. Their homework is written in their agenda.

Each night please sign their agenda and circle/write what you did for homework. I understand that evenings can be busy. Some families like to do lots of homework. Other families prefer minimal amounts. French reading, English reading, sight words and a Math game is the most you would ever complete. Students are expected to do at least one. Lalilo in English or French is always an option too.

Our Math game this week: Remove the face cards and tens. Divide the pack in half. Flip two cards and say the two-digit number in French. A pack of cards and two dice will be needed for Math games throughout the year.

*Cross-country folks - if your child is staying for cross-country please write this in their agenda so that I know they have a drive arranged.

Reminders for the week:

WED - Meet the teacher @KSE @6-7pm

FRI- Library Day!

Posted: September 11, 2024

Hi folks!

We had a great first trip to the Chatham Public Library! All students have checked out a book. If students had their own card or a sheet to receive a card, the book was checked out under the student. If not, I checked out the book for them. Once students are finished with their book, you can drop it off at any NB public library or give it to me and I can (I go there a lot).

Our regular KSE library day is Friday.

There is a memo going home today regarding the Terry Fox Walk at KSE. Our scholastic book order will be going home tomorrow.

Please take a moment to check out our class site: Mme. Robichaud | King Street Elementary (nbed.nb.ca). There are new pictures!

You made it! First week done!

Students are adjusting well and getting back into routine. We have a great group! Should ever you want to reach out, feel free to email me at maggie.robichaud@nbed.nb.ca.

So far we've gone over sight words in French and English. Homework will start on Monday with words highlighted for you to review. They will also share a Math warm-up game that we've been using to start Math classes.

You folks ROCKED at getting in all the paperwork! Our class is working toward a reward - on Wednesday, September 11th we will be going on our first field trip! Weather permitting, we will be walking to the Chatham Public Library. We will be taking out books and completing an activity in the park. A page will be going home on Monday with further details.

Cross-country will be starting on Monday for students who chose to join. If you think your child may like to join, please feel free to reach out. Practices are afterschool each Monday and meets in the Miramichi/Blackville areas on Wednesday. This is completely an optional activity. Drives are not provided, no parent volunteers are needed and there is no fee to join. On CC days, I do ask that you send a note in their agenda or email to confirm that drives have been arranged.

All for now!

Have a great weekend.
