Winter fun before March Break

TUESDAY, February 27th: Skating @ Howard Street outdoor rink.

We will be walking to the outdoor rink on Howard Street. We will leave the school shortly after lunch and be returning before 2:30. Students must bring their skates and helmet in a bag so they can carry them comfortably to the rink and back. This activity will be dependent on the weather.

Students will need: skates & helmet in a bag

 

 

WEDNESDAY, February 28th: Library & Napan Baykery (9am-12pm)

We will be walking downtown and using the Chatham Public Library as our home-base for the morning. Students will be visiting the library, completing an activity outside and a craft inside. Snack provided by Napan Baykery.

Students will need: their library card and outside gear.

 

 

THURSDAY, February 29th: Outside Snowshoe & Hot Chocolate (1pm-3pm)

We will be going for a snowshoe around the school and in the woods. We will be having a hot chocolate to end the day.

Students will need: outside gear.

 

 

FRIDAY, March 1st: Swimming @Golden Hawk (1pm-3pm)

Students will be heading to the Golden Hawk for a swim! They are requesting all children to complete the lap test to swim in the deep end. Lifejackets remain in shallow end.

Students will need: bathing suit (no string bikinis – no wardrobe malfunctions please), towel.

Hi folks!

Happy fake Monday. A few updates for the week. Please note, a memo is going home today about lots of activities for next week. We are looking for a few volunteers that have their Policy 701. If you're able to join the fun, please let us know. First come, first serve. I've also posted some of the letter on our website. Mme. Robichaud | King Street Elementary (nbed.nb.ca)

Grade 3 students have a subtraction test tomorrow (Wednesday). We've been practicing, but a little extra practice at home will never hurt. Next up, we will begin multiplication and continue next week. After the break will be division. In French writing we are wrapping up our magic potions and will begin our writing on a NB animal. In English we are wrapping up our animal research report.

Grade 4 students are exploring different strategies to multiply 2 or 3 digit numbers by one digit. After the break we will explore estimating with division, long multiplication and long division (buckle up!). In French writing we are wrapping up our country research project and in English too! Next up will be a research report on a country.

Both grade 3&4 have been continuing to discuss and learn about Black history month. We will finish with an English report as well as a few writing activities in French. Despite wrapping up our Black history month, we will continue to review and discuss its importance.

Hi folks!

Monday again! Grade 3's will be having a Math test on addition with regrouping this week. Grade 4's Math test will be on multiplication and division. Grade 4's Math pack will go home today (Monday). Please continue reading their guided reading book each night. It really helps and goes a long way!

Hi folks!

I tried, I really tried! Here are a few more things that have popped up to go with last week's email.

Reading/words: Students still should be reading their levelled French books and English books (some have levelled, some are beyond levelled books) each night. Students also have a personalized pack of French words on a key ring to read too. Each week we will be adding new words. Please bring back to school each and every day.

Math: We will have a test early next week. "Packages" will be sent home later this week or Monday.

Lunches: Every Tuesday is Cafe Franco. Any student is welcome to attend during their regular meal time. But, meals cannot be purchased from the cafeteria if attending Cafe Franco (two locations VERY far apart).

Also, THURSDAY we will be having a pizza party. Congrats to Sandra who WON the NB Fire Chief for a Day contest! Miramichi Firefighters will be visiting us on Thursday, showing us their truck and feeding the students pizza! Thanks Sandra!

Snacks: Not sure if winter wheather makes kids hungrier or not, but many are hungry these days. An extra snack may be a good idea since my class stash is quickly being eaten.

Hi folks!
Quite late in my weekly email today so I'm going to attempt to cover this week and next in one email. Wish me luck!
 
Items: Please ask your child if any replacement items are needed for them to do their work. Around this time it seems a number of pairs of scissors, headphones and colouring utensils start to disappear, break or run-out. Thank you!
 
Celebrations: I will be sending out a Valentine list for our class celebration in a few weeks. Valentine's day is on a Wednesday this year so we should be good to celebrate then in our class. We will also be celebrating Chinese New Year around February 10th.
 
Skating: Our class is heading skating on Wednesday, January 31st. Parents/adults are welcome to come skate and/or tie skates. We skate from 10-10:30am @LBA. Please let me know if you are planning to bring their skates & helmet to the rink. Those students without skates or helmets will stay at the school.
 
Science: Each week we will continue to complete a Science Experiment. When possible, I do let students bring parts of our experiments home. Safety measured are covered in class, but if you have any questions feel free to reach out!
 
Math: Grade 3 students are working on adding with regrouping and soon to be subtracting with regrouping. "Reciprocal" expressions are encouraged to be reviewed (ex. 8+7=15, 7+8=15, 15-8=7 and 15-7=8 are all connected! Below are a few links to help out, as well as on SplashLearn. Grade 4 students are working on multiplication and division. Again, reciprocal expressions are encouraged to be reviewed (ex 5x6=30, 6x5=30, 30÷6=5 and 30÷5=6 are all connected! Hi folks!

Math Test: Math tests will be heading home tomorrow (Tuesday) to be signed and returned. We are now moving on from bar graphs to multiplication for grade 4 and addition/subtraction strategies for grade 3.

Book Order: A book order went home today with a list of your child's favourite picks. Online or in person orders are due on or before this Friday.

Cafe Franco: Those students interested in participating in Cafe Franco are asked to bring a bagged lunch on Tuesday. Cafe Franco is a time when they eat in a French immersive environment. Grade 1&2 students participate as well during their cafeteria times. This is every Tuesday.

Winter gear & Lost items: The majority of students are heading outside, especially in the morning, without snow pants, mitts and hats. It's chilly out there and please dress properly! At lunch when they head out, I monitor it as best I can. We have a few items in the class in class anyone forgot something. Hi Folks!

Welcome to 2024 and back to the grind. For tonight, we kept it light to help students (and their adults) get back into the swing of things. Guided reading books and Math facts will be homework moving forward. Here are some items of importance.

Agenda: Please dig out your child's agenda to help stay organized and back in routine. Many students forgot them at home today.

Skating: We have two upcoming skating dates on the calendar. January 31st and March 13th. I'll remind you in advance.

Math: Tomorrow students will have a unit Math pack in their homework folder. Their upcoming test will be on graphing. These packages do not need to be sent back but instead are for your reference.

Outdoor gear: Please take a peek for snowpants, mitts, hat, boots and coat in the morning. We go outside and it's much more enjoyable when we are dressed properly. I do have a few items in the class to borrow if forgotten.

Student teacher: Mme Young has returned to her studies at UNB. She will be back in our class in the Spring. We were very lucky to have her in our class -especially during my absence when my father passed away. Thank you Mme Young and we can't wait for your return to KSE!

CHRISTMAS CONCERT: Our concert will be on Tuesday @1pm. Students are asked to dress nicely.
 
SECRE SANTA GIFT EXCHANGE: Please have your child's secret Santa gift wrapped and labelled TO: ______ FROM: Your Secret Santa. We ask that you have the gift into the school by Friday. If your child has lost their page, please let me know.
 
WEBSITES: As promised to many, here are our websites we use in class. Both of these are sites that I select questions to complete and can see their progress. It should also be written and/or glued on the inside cover of their agenda.

Hi folks!

Parent-Teacher request slips have been placed in your child's agenda. There will be another copy in the report cards that are being sent home tomorrow. If your time no longer suits you, just send me an email or note in your child's agenda to keep me in the loop. Thanks! Also found in the report card will be a bright green page with what has been covered this term & an optional Secret Santa gift exchange. The page will be due this Thursday for those that want to participate. If money is a problem, please let me know and we can arrange for that. 

Snow has arrived! That means snow boots, snow pants, mitts, hats and jackets. Also, please help your child assure they have a water bottle for the day. There are no longer cups available at the school and it makes for a long day without water.

PJ DAY FRIDAY (tomorrow)!!!

Students earned 100 points and are using it tomorrow for a PJ/movie afternoon. They can opt to wear PJs, bring a blanket, bring a stuffy and some extra snacks. Way to go class!

Their next goal is to earn 60 points by Wednesday for a visit to the public library.

Hi folks!
The students and I are well aware of a second teacher in our class, but I'm pretty sure I forgot to tell you folks about it! This year, we have Amilya Young with us. She is a student-teacher from UNB. So, if you ever hear one of the students talking about Mme Young, they are referring to her! A page will go home this week about Parent-Teacher Interviews etc.
 
We also have Mme Andrée-Anne. She is a French Language Mentor that is assigned to our school. She rotates between French Immersion classes to provide classroom support. In our class, Mme Andrée-Anne provides extra support for reading interventions and to promote French language acquisition.
 
We've been fortunate to have lots of teachers for the students. Last week we had a great presentation by Peter and Deanna Gadd who have helped us learn about Tree Swallows. Hi folks!

A little late, but here are some reminders/information for the upcoming days.

Skating is tomorrow. Students need to have their own skates and helmet. The school had offered days/times for you to borrow for the year. This is still available for future dates if you call the office. Our skating time is from approximately 9:45-10:30 @LBA. Students without skates stay at the school. If you are meeting your child at the LBA with their skates, please let me know in their agenda or via email/text.

Writing examples will be sent home tomorrow. Please sign and return. This shows where your child is at in their English and French writing.

Bird Presentation will be held for our class on Thursday by Peter & Deanna Gladd. They helped install our nest boxes and we have more to learn about.

Timberwolves tickets to give away! I have 10 student tickets to give away. If you would like one for your child(ren), email me back! This is a reward for reading this far! YAY! First come, first served.

Hi folks!

Heads up - we will be going skating near the end of the month. Please start digging out your skates and helmet if necessary. If you'd like to borrow skates and helmets from the school for the year, today is the last day to do so until 5:30 pm. If they do not have skates on the day we go skating, they will not be able to attend.

Also, Grade 3 students have begun participating in the Big Brothers, Big Sisters sponsored program called SNAP. It stands for Stop Now and Plan and is a 12 lesson program that helps students stop and think before acting.

Our first Math unit is coming to a close and tests will be heading home tomorrow. Grade 3 please continue to review mixed money. Grade 4 please continue to review subtraction with regrouping.
